About me

For as long as I can remember I've always loved drawing animals, which is perhaps unsurprising given that I was a pony-mad kid and a huge lover of all creatures, whether they be furry, scaly, feathered, domestic or wild!  I recall my art teacher at school trying to encourage me to draw anything but horses, but she finally relented and allowed me to do an equine piece for my A-level, for which I won the A-level art prize.  On leaving school, I was torn between working with horses and becoming a professional artist, and I spent three weeks at art college, which really wasn't for me!  The teaching style just didn’t suit me so I decided to leave, spending the next few years riding professionally and completing an undergrad degree in psychology and sociology, followed later by a professional doctorate in psychology.

I am now a chartered counselling psychologist, and have continued to draw throughout my career, finding my medium in coloured pencils.  Whilst pencil drawing isn’t the quickest process (depending on paper size the average piece usually takes around 40 hours), I’ve found it really enables me to bring my subjects’ characters to life, which I think is so important, especially for pet portraits!

I now work part time as an artist alongside my psychology practice, and have a little home studio where I am overseen by my dog, Chester.  I specialise in equine and pet portraits and really love bringing my clients’ treasured furry (and unfurry!) friends to life.  If you are interested in booking a commission, you can find more information on my Commissions page.

From paper choice to colour pencils, I use the highest quality materials to create my portraits.  I mainly use Faber Castell Polychromos and Derwent Lightfast and Caran D'ache Pablo pencils on drafting film to create my pieces, as together they are fantastic for capturing colour and texture and bringing special subjects to life.

To commission your portrait, all you need to do is contact me via my contact page and let me know your requirements.  I require a 25% non-refundable deposit* on booking your portrait, with the remainder due on completion.

*Deposits are non-refundable unless in the unfortunate instance that I need to cancel your portrait, in which case I will refund your deposit in full.
